Introduction to Plants

Section 1-- The Plant Kingdom

plants -- produce own food

-- are multicellular

-- plant cells have a nucleus

-- cell wall

-- chloroplasts

Plants need to transport food and water to

different sections of their bodies. Some have a system

of vascular tissue which also helps support the plant.

Reproduction in plants is usually sexual.

Fertilization occurs when sperm and egg unite.

Asexual reproduction can sometimes occur.

Vegetative propagation is a form of asexual

reproduction. Some plants can be reproduced with cuttings.

Other, such as strawberries, form runners to produce new plants.
